										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Na esteira do artigo anterior (leia na nossa plataforma!), venho aqui humildemente tentar desmascarar alguns mitos (ou <em>menstrumitos</em>!) sobre a menstruação. A menstruação foi assunto importante e recente em função da<em> pobreza ou precariedade menstrual</em>, nome usado para registrar a falta de acesso de meninas e mulheres a produtos básicos para manter uma boa higiene no período.</p>
<p>O que é a menstruação?</p>
<p>Regras, boi, chico, costume, embaraço, escorrência, lua, menorreia, paquete, pingadeira, visita. O dicionário traz todos como sinônimos. Regionalismos ou arcaísmos, trata-se de um sangramento vaginal (embora de conteúdo originário do útero) que ocorre mais ou menos uma vez por mês (a maioria das mulheres tem o ciclo entre 28 e 32 dias de duração) em mulheres que se encontram entre a menarca e a menopausa. Além de sangue, há uma descamação tecidual do revestimento do útero. Aparentemente compreendida, a menstruação está repleta de falsas ideias sobre ela. Aqui, vou tratar do que &#8220;não se trata&#8221; a menstruação. Apresentemos os <em>menstrumitos</em>!</p>
<p>Primeiro <em>menstrumito</em>: <strong>a menstruação é o óvulo morto saindo.</strong></p>
<p>Não! Pelamordedeus! O óvulo (ou mais precisamente ovócito) é apenas uma célula. Ele morre, se não for fecundado. Isso acontece pouco depois do meio do ciclo menstrual (se o ciclo for de 28 dias). Sua morte ocorre na tuba uterina e não há sangramentos, nem outros espetáculos. É uma morte serena, sem alardes. Nada de menstruação aqui.</p>
<p>Segundo <em>menstrumito</em>: <strong>a menstruação ocorre no fim do ciclo menstrual.</strong></p>
<p>Não! Pelo contrário! O primeiro dia da menstruação é o primeiro dia do ciclo menstrual! Esse fato inclusive facilita a identificação dos ciclos para fins de conhecer seu tamanho e talvez conseguir uma previsibilidade de seus momentos (alguns aplicativos ajudam nisso).</p>
<p>Terceiro <em>menstrumito</em>: <strong>muitas mulheres menstruam durante a gravidez.</strong></p>
<p>Não! Gravidez e ciclo menstrual são incompatíveis. Se a mulher está grávida, o ciclo menstrual está interrompido. Os hormônios da gravidez impedem a ação da glândula pituitária (ou hipófise) cujos hormônios desencadeiam a liberação de um novo óvulo. É possível (e até relativamente frequente) pequenos sangramentos nos primeiros meses de gravidez mas não são menstruações e, nesses casos, é recomendável conferência médica.</p>
<p>Quarto <em>menstrumito</em>: <strong>não é possível engravidar durante o período menstrual.</strong></p>
<p>Este é quase verdadeiro. Sem dúvida, a probabilidade de uma gravidez é muito maior quando a relação sexual se dá (sem outros cuidados) durante os momentos extra-menstruais. A chance de engravidar durante o fluxo menstrual é extremamente baixa mas não é impossível. Para que acontecesse, das duas uma: ou a menstruação é muito longa ( em dias) ou o ciclo menstrual é muito curto. Só assim, haveria a chance de uma ovulação nesse momento. Mas, ainda assim, haveria um segundo fator trabalhando contra a gravidez. O endométrio (parte superficial do útero) está desmanchando quando na verdade deveria estar se desenvolvendo para abrigar o futuro embrião.</p>
<p>Agora, todos os mitos estão espantados! Xô, desinformação!</p>

<p>Under her leadership as Executive Director for five years, PERIOD addressed over 1.5 million periods and registered over 800 campus chapters in all 50 states and 50 other countries.</p>
<p>In 2017, Nadya ran for public office in Cambridge, MA at age 19 — at the time, becoming the youngest Asian American to run. <p dir="ltr"><strong>1. How did your family and academic background help you to become such a competent professional?</strong></p>

<p dir="ltr" role="presentation">I was always a diligent worker in school and my mom taught me a lot about the nonprofit space and resilience. My mom also went to Harvard as well, and she also grew up in a household that really valued education — so academics were always a priority for me growing up.</p>

<p dir="ltr"><strong>2.  What is On My Period movement and why it is important?</strong></p>

<p dir="ltr" role="presentation">#onmyperiod is a campaign started by August that works towards our goals to eliminate period stigma and reimagining period care as powerful. The campaign is about showing up unapologetically and sharing that we are CAPABLE and can be CONFIDENT, regardless of whether or not we are menstruating.</p>

<p dir="ltr"><strong>3. How did you come up with @itsaugust and where does your entrepreneurial background come from?</strong></p>

Before then, I had been working in the nonprofit sector for many years as the founder of <a href="http://period.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://period.org/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1616111885804000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGizF7WuaY-qlfEKc6F1r9i437XzA">period.org</a>, and several years ago, I think I started to really feel like I could personally make a bigger impact on the overall conversation about periods and what period care is from the social enterprise side. I knew that period care could be more sustainable, ethically-made, and impactful — and that&#8217;s what August aims to address.</p>
